My Filmmaking
All the acting books, articles and coaches have all told me the same thing: "Create your own work". I used to push that advice to the side, because I was an actor. Not a filmmaker. Not a writer. But when I finally decided to give it a try, I saw why they all said that. I now understand the industry better. I have gained so much respect for each person that contributes to the creation of a film. I can see a scene from the writers point of view. But most importantly, I'm not sitting around waiting for work to come to me. I'm creating it for myself.
I first began with writing scripts. I have written many short films, and I am currently in the process of writing a feature film and a TV series. I began writing because many of the stories that I wanted to see simply weren't out there. So, I decided to write them myself. The majority of the screenplays that I write center around topics that I have personal connection to. For example, I identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and I love to write stories of my community. I currently attend a weekly writing workshop at my acting studio where other students and I exchange scripts and feedback.

I then decided that I wanted to bring my stories from the page to the screen. My father, Dave Meichsner, works with me on my films. He has a degree in film, and has worked in the industry in the past. With the help of friends I have met through film and theater, we are currently in post-production for two original short films. We are also in the earlier stages of pre-production for our third short film!

"The Tree"
Currently in: Post-production
Logline: Over the course of a week, "The Tree" creatively follows the complex friendship between two teenage girls as they meet under a tree.

"Dare"

This film is inspired by my experience as a young queer individual. It shows the awkward and often hard reality that we face.

"Almost Okay"
Currently in: Pre-production
Logline: Four teenagers all grappling with their own inner turmoil meet at a program for teens with mental health issues, eventually facing their struggles together.

The concept of "Almost Okay" stems from my own experiences with mental health. The purpose of this film is to raise awareness for adolescent mental health, and to show those struggling that they are not alone.
